Creation and imposing on 3d models of textures and giving them of necessary optical properties.  

Before texturing and shading processes all objects of our virtual world look like lifeless grey statues. Now they become colored and have texture. According to the sketches of the art director textures of all objects and characters are being drawn, their physical properties are being defined and various parameters of materials are adjusted. Technical requirements such as the size of textures, format, detalization are established by the department supervisor proceeding from on how close up the object gets into the camera.

Each object has the certain set of textures – textures of color, relief and highlights. Sometimes photos of various objects are used. With their help shading experts simulate physical properties of any material.
